Experienced Gardener Required
Set at the Black Isle Brewery and adjoining farm (near Inverness) we are currently seeking to recruit a hard-working, enthusiastic and physically fit experienced Gardener to work alongside our existing small team. We are based on a 120 acre organic farm and are strongly committed to organic growing principles, the preservation of the environment, sustainability and the protection of invertebrates.
The ornamental gardens and organic/bio-dynamic vegetable production covers roughly about 5 acres of the overall farm. In addition to this there are a number of external garden maintenance contracts and an expanding Garden Design business.
Primarily your role will be the upkeep and maintenance of the formal gardens of the House which includes a herb and cutting garden, hedges, herbaceous borders, lawns, and an orchard. In addition to this you will be expected to oversee the maintenance of some outside gardens. Other duties could include helping out with planting and landscaping on the Garden Design side of the business.
The farm and business also hosts woofers and other volunteers and you will be expected to work alongside and lead them at times.
The successful candidate MUST have the following attributes:
Be physically fit (e.g be able to dig for a day to prepare a new border or bed and you must be able to carry or lift 20kg of weight)
5 years proven garden experience in a professional setting
A recognisable horticultural qualification (RHS Level 2 or equivalent) or be able to demonstrate a knowledge based on at least 5 years professional gardening experience.
Enthusiastic and hard-working with a can-do attitude.
Must be prepared to work outdoors in all weathers.
Have a friendly manner when dealing with clients or volunteers.
Able to use most forms of garden machinery and tools e.g mowers, strimmers, hedgecutters etc.
Experience and knowledge of the care, maintenance and planting of a wide variety of herbaceous perennials, annuals, bedding plants, ornamental shrubs and trees.
Be flexible and have the ability to work on ones initiative.
A Full valid UK Driving Licence and be prepared to drive a company van.
It would be advantageous but not necessary if the candidate had soft and hard landscaping knowledge, a chainsaw certificate, and a knowledge of maintenance of garden machinery.
Hours of work Mon- Fri 8am-5pm, 40 hours per week.
Generous salary available for the right candidate, negotiable , dependent on experience.
